DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, US Army Air Corps "Avigation Master Watch" with winding indicator, Vanguard, 23J, 16S, chrome-plated base metal OF original case with contract markings on rear, black metal dial marked GCT (Greenwich Civil Time), SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, white metal hairspring, jeweled barrel, mvt marked "U.S. Army A.C." on dial plate near balance wheel, checkerboard center pattern nickel damascene, s#27443472. This rare "Type A-6" military timepiece dates to the late 1930s and its case back is marked with the period term of "Avigation" which is a blend of the words aviation and navigation.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good winding indicator function, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces with few mild micro-fine scratches, perimeter of center wheel with some abrasions; excellent dial with small specks of paint loss to 12 and 1 numerals as well as 15 minute marker; excellent hands; case shows light wear, fine scratches to band, no dents or dings, rear with only small portions of chrome finish remaining, contract markings are fully present and easily legible; tight bow, crown shows light wear; glass crystal with some fine scratches.
